I am so excited to share with you a special date night Scott and I had this past weekend. For our wedding, some of our dear friends gave us an awesome present: a gift card to the Inn at Little Washington. It's best described as an award winning culinary adventure that is an escape from the day to day routine. It's about an hour and fifteen minute drive from the DC area and we decided to make an afternoon of it. We stopped along the way at Mediterranean Cellars in Warrenton VA and enjoyed a nice tasting while chatting with the owners who were originally from Athens and opened this vineyard about 10 years ago! We took home a bottle of our favorite wine, called "Romance".
Right away, we were served a taste from the chef which included a fried cherry tomato with goat cheese, their take on fish and chips (homemade potato chip filled with homemade onion dip and rolled in caviar) and a bite of Virginia ham, fig and cheese. I knew right away we were in for a treat!
Still having not even ordered yet, we were presented with another taste from the kitchen, cold tomato soup with a hint of orange and sambuca and a homemade cheddar biscuit.
For the first course I started with a hearts of palm salad with fennel, crab meat and avocado and Scott enjoyed spicy sesame tuna tartar with cucumber sorbet.
The second course was my favorite. Aged gouda mac and cheese with Virginia country ham and Scott's scallop with vegetables and garlic grits. Yum!
For the main course I went with the sea bass with lemon vodka sauce and after some convincing from our knowledgeable and kind waiter, Scott tried the Duck with Foie Gras and was glad he did! The flavor combinations and attention to detail really goes a long way.
And finally, our desserts included a sampling of what they have on their menu plus the regular size homemade ice cream sandwich with caramel sauce.
Thanks again friends!
